Random Thoughts

OK, I haven’t posted in quite a while. Partly because I haven’t been traveling much so no new brewpubs. But also just out of lack of inspiration. But today I feel like talking.

The one new beer place I’ve found is not a brewpub but an English pub. It’s called ‘The Pub’ and it’s in Columbus, Ohio.  It’s a really nice place with a great beer selection. They seem to specialize in English/Scottish beers but have a pretty good selection of others.  They have a nice Pub food menu with a few interesting additions.  I had a shepherds Pie that left a little to be desired but I plan to give them another try. The atmosphere was pleasant and pub like. The wait staff seemed friendly and attentive. All in all, a nice place and worth checking out if you’re ever in the area.  It’s owned by The Tavern Group who have several other ‘The Pubs’ and some other  places. I believe at one time they had a Pub in the Cincinnati Airport that was one of my favorites.

On another note it recently became much easier to ship beer into Tennessee. There were some vendors that would do it but many would not.  I mention this because I just found a great place to order beer from. It’s called HalfTime Beverage.  They have an extensive beer list and will ship anything from a single to a case.  You can order 24 singles at a time if you want and the best deal for shipping seems to be at that level. The beer isn’t cheap and the shipping isn’t either but it’s certainly an interesting option for finding obscure beers.  I’ve just placed my first order and am eagerly awaiting the delivery.  I’ll let you know how it turns out. They also have  beer of the month clubs that will ship you 12 beers from a region of your choice. They have a better selection than most of these but I think they charge too much for this service.  They’re monthly price is high and then they charge shipping.  I know a couple of other clubs that don’t charge shipping.  Check out Great Clubs and Flying Noodle. The former I have tried and can recommend the latter I have not tried yet but it looks interesting.
